Drug and Alcohol Testing, Policy, Tests and Information
Mon, 11/10/2008 - 17:15 — ProActive Healt...It should be the responsibility of every corporation to provide drug and alcohol testing, drug and alcohol policy, tests and information to the employees of the company. The employee shouldn’t have questions regarding this information.
A comprehensive policy should be part of everyone’s handbook when they are hired. The drug and alcohol testing should be spelled out in language that is clearly understood. Is it going to be random testing, does there have to be provocation for the drug and alcohol testing? These questions should be outlined clearly and concisely for the employee.
If the company does not have a drug an alcohol testing policy or information that they can provide there is help that they can get. Proactive Health and Safety is one of several companies that provide services such as this. They can work with corporations to put together a handbook that explains what kind of tests will be performed if drug and alcohol abuse on the job is suspected.
If the employee is involved in a vehicular accident while at work can that be grounds for instituting a test. The information on these policies should be given out or posted somewhere in a conspicuous place. Injuries and accidents can be prevented or kept to a minimum if the company has incorporated drug and alcohol testing, policies, tests and information.
The UK has provided companies with program information to help with drug and alcohol abuse in the workplace. The government wants to make sure that the corporations have the tools they need to train their staff and provide counselling if necessary.
If the employee is unaware of the drug and alcohol testing, policy, tests and information they won’t know that help could be available. They may be afraid that if they make the problem known they will lose their job.
